Getting Started with Azure Application Insights for App Service Monitoring
Learn to enable Application Insights on Azure App Service, explore live metrics and application maps, and analyze failures and performance to monitor your apps.

Lab overview
Azure Application Insights is a powerful application performance management (APM) service that helps you monitor live applications, detect issues, and diagnose problems. It automatically collects telemetry data including requests, dependencies, exceptions, and performance metrics, giving you complete visibility into your application's health.
In this lab, you will enable Application Insights on an Azure App Service, generate traffic to produce telemetry data, and explore the monitoring tools available for investigating application behavior. You'll learn how to use Live Metrics, Application Map, and the Failures and Performance blades to understand your application's health.
Objectives
Upon completion of this beginner level lab, you will be able to:
- Enable Application Insights on an Azure App Service and understand the connection between resources
- Monitor real-time application behavior using Live Metrics and Application Map
- Analyze application failures and performance using investigation tools
- Navigate end-to-end transaction details to diagnose individual request issues
Who is this lab for?
This lab is designed for:
- Cloud engineers looking to implement observability for Azure applications
- Azure certification candidates preparing for AZ-204 or AZ-400 exams
- Developers who want to monitor and troubleshoot their App Service applications
- IT professionals transitioning to cloud application monitoring
Verified against your live environment
An automated validation engine inspects your actual resources and configurations as you work. Completion means the task was performed — not multiple choice, real-world proficiency.
